KRQE News 13: Senators push for more wildfire funds

The senators will tour Arizona and New Mexico this week.

Among the stops are the Apache-Sitgreaves, Gila National Forest and Luna, where the Wallow Fire burn scar remains.

The 2011 blaze was the largest in Arizona’s history, burning nearly 860 square miles there, and eventually making its way across the New Mexico border.

The tour is aimed at supporting a change in wildfire funding to treat them like natural disasters, allowing money to more easily be used for prevention, firefighting and restoration efforts.
