        (January 25, 2011, 5:15 p.m. MT) U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich welcomed Master Sergeant Lucas Saavedra and Tech Sergeant Andrew Jacob Levison, members of New Mexico's Air National Guard 150th Fighter Wing to his Washington, D.C. office. MSgt Saavedra and TSgt Levison will be Rep. Heinrich's special guests at the president's State of the Union address.

          WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) attends the bill signing ceremony for The Tribal Law and Order Act of 2010 at the White House on July 29, 2010. Rep. Heinrich is a cosponsor of the legislation to give American Indian tribes more authority to combat crime on their reservations. "This law will make our Native communities safer by giving law enforcement on tribal lands the resources and authority they need to prosecute and fight crime more effectively. The signing of this bill marks a step forward in public safety on reservations and nearby communities. Today, we sent a clear message that sexual assault and other crimes, far too common on tribal land, will no longer go unnoticed due to lack of resources."

            On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) trip to Afghanistan. The purpose of the trip was to observe and assess the progress being made in Afghanistan. Rep. Heinrich, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, met with military and diplomatic leaders in the region, U.S. troops and humanitarian workers from New Mexico, and conducted oversight of additional forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Forces. Rep. Heinrich was accompanied by five other congressmen: Representatives Larry Kissell (D-NC), Frank Kratovil (D-MD), John Kline (R-MN), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), and David Reichert (R-WA). The delegation spent most of its time in Kabul and Kandahar and was one of the first Congressional delegations in years to have visited Kandahar City.

              February 12, 2010 - Representative Martin Heinrich went to the construction site of NewLife Homes on Albuquerque’s Westside to meet with New Mexicans who have been put to work because of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Funded through the Recovery Act’s Tax Credit Exchange Program, NewLife Homes is an affordable housing project building 48 units for low income individuals with mental and physical disabilities, some of whom are transitioning out of homelessness. The project will create or retain 100 jobs. The Recovery Act was signed into law on February 17, 2009.
