• Heinrich Visits Troops In Afghanistan »

    On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) trip to Afghanistan. The purpose of the trip was to observe and assess the progress being made in Afghanistan. Rep. Heinrich, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, met with military and diplomatic leaders in the region, U.S. troops and humanitarian workers from New Mexico, and conducted oversight of additional forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Forces. Rep. Heinrich was accompanied by five other congressmen: Representatives Larry Kissell (D-NC), Frank Kratovil (D-MD), John Kline (R-MN), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), and David Reichert (R-WA). The delegation spent most of its time in Kabul and Kandahar and was one of the first Congressional delegations in years to have visited Kandahar City.

      February 12, 2010 - Representative Martin Heinrich went to the construction site of NewLife Homes on Albuquerque’s Westside to meet with New Mexicans who have been put to work because of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Funded through the Recovery Act’s Tax Credit Exchange Program, NewLife Homes is an affordable housing project building 48 units for low income individuals with mental and physical disabilities, some of whom are transitioning out of homelessness. The project will create or retain 100 jobs. The Recovery Act was signed into law on February 17, 2009.

        March 8, 2010 - As part of his long term effort to put New Mexicans back to work, Representative Martin Heinrich hosted a job fair in Albuquerque with over 30 employers and attended by nearly 800 job seekers. The event provided an opportunity for unemployed and underemployed individuals to meet face-to-face with local employers who are actively hiring. “I will not rest until we rebuild our economy in a way that puts New Mexicans back to work,” said Rep. Heinrich. “By focusing on job creation, small businesses, energy independence, and middle-class tax relief, we can re-energize our economy and make it work for everyone.”

          November 16, 2009 - Representative Martin Heinrich highlighted a successful American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 project that has created jobs and is saving New Mexico’s working families on average over four hundred dollars a year on their utility bills. Rep. Heinrich joined a family in the South Valley as their home was being weatherized through the Central New Mexico Housing Corporation’s Weatherization Assistance Program.

            On October 19, 2009, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich visited the historic Los Poblanos Inn & Cultural Center in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. With a small business loan from Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union, Los Poblanos will undergo a $6.1 million, 16,000 square foot expansion beginning in November 2009. Representative Heinrich is a co-sponsor of H.B. 3380, the Promoting Lending to America’s Small Business Act, which would raise the limits on business loans to credit union members.
