Heinrich Statement On Texas Elementary School Shooting

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) issued the following statement in response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas:

"No parent should worry that their child won't return safely from a day at school. No family should fear for the safety of their loved ones during a trip to the grocery store. We've known for far too long the devastating toll that gun violence has taken on American communities--and not only in these horrific mass shooting events, but also in the increasing cases of gun homicides and suicides.

"Nothing will change until Republicans stop using the filibuster to block us from passing real solutions that will help us prevent future gun violence tragedies. As a gun owner myself, I refuse to accept the premise that it is impossible to find agreement on policies that can help us effectively reduce gun violence and protect community safety.

"Nearly 10 years after Sandy Hook and more than two decades since Columbine, we find ourselves holding up families, teachers, and students mourning the inexplicable loss of children. When will never again actually mean never again?"
