“Pastor Miller, the Hospitality Coalition, and everyone at El Calvario have really stepped up to the plate to advocate for migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic. These are the types of Hometown Heroes that display the true spirit of what it means to be a New Mexican,” said Heinrich. “I’m inspired by their charity and determination to always do the right thing and care for those in need. It’s that kind of fight that I take back with me to D.C. – to pass immigration reform that addresses the root causes of mass migration from Central America, and fixes our broken immigration laws.”

Recently, Senator Heinrich secured $110 million for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) in the American Rescue Plan to provide economic support for localities and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide humanitarian care to migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border. The measure, which mirrors bipartisan legislation he introduced, was included in the American Rescue Plan.
