ICYMI – Heinrich Talks Transmission, Electrification, And Infrastructure With Axios

WASHINGTON - In a virtual discussion, “Energy Forward: Reinventing the Grid,” hosted by Axios today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) discussed policies he’s working on to build a cleaner, more reliable U.S. power grid.

During the interview, Senator Heinrich stated that one of his priorities “is trying to secure an investment tax credit for infrastructure - transmission lines in particular.

In regards to the ongoing infrastructure negotiations for President Joe Biden’s American Jobs Plan, Senator Heinrich expressed that he does think that “transmission generally is a bipartisan issue. There is a recognition on both sides that we need more transmission.”

Senator Heinrich introduced the Electric Power Infrastructure Improvement Act to improve the resilience of the grid and support new projects that connect modern renewable energy resources to the power demands of regional consumer markets. The bill would create an investment tax credit to help promote construction of regionally significant transmission projects across the nation.

Senator Heinrich also discussed establishing a clean energy standard and removing barriers to home electrification. Senator Heinrich introduced the Electrifying America’s Future Resolution last month to advance the vision of widespread electrification of appliances and machines in American homes and businesses. He will soon be introducing legislation to establish a new rebate program to lower the up-front cost and make electrified appliances more accessible, particularly to low-to-moderate income households.
