Heinrich Honors César E. Chávez Legacy

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Democratic Hispanic Task Force, cosponsored a resolution to honor civil rights leader César E. Chávez.

"César Chávez was a visionary and passionate leader who dedicated his life to helping some of our most underrepresented communities. He fought to ensure farm workers earned fair wages, better working conditions, and through practicing non-violence, he inspired a nation to stand up for justice and civil rights," said Sen. Heinrich. "Our country is better because of César Chávez, and New Mexico's heritage is richer because of his influence and legacy. Let us continue César Chávez's vision of service and work together to create a more prosperous country filled with hope and opportunity for everyone."

Every year on March 31, more than 10 states, including New Mexico, honor the life and legacy of César Chávez. In New Mexico, César Chávez Day brings communities together to celebrate and contribute to service and learning projects across the state.
