Delivering for New Mexicans in 2025

Dear Friend,

Merry Christmas and happy holidays from me and my entire team in Washington, D.C. and across New Mexico.

I know this has been a tough year for many folks. But as New Mexico families gather this holiday season to share posole, make tamales, or enjoy a hike together on our public lands, I am reminded of what an honor it is to work for you in the United States Senate.

Because at the core of who we are in New Mexico, we are a family, and we are committed to fighting for the people and the places we love.

This year those fights were often long and hard. But we still managed to win many of them.

Victories

When Republicans proposed selling off our public lands, we rallied folks across the aisle and the country to fight back, and we stopped it.

We finally expanded the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act, delivering long-overdue justice to downwinders across the entire state of New Mexico, increasing benefits, and finally expanding eligibility for uranium workers to include core drillers. We passed my HALT Fentanyl Act, which permanently classifies fentanyl under the most restrictive federal regulations for controlled substances. We passed the ORPHAN Cures Act, boosting the development of drugs that treat rare diseases; and we passed the Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act, helping better combat the year-round threat of catastrophic wildfire.

Fighting For You

But perhaps most importantly, I am proud of how we have been there for you.

Our team in New Mexico helped close 1,760 constituent cases, getting over 22 million dollars back into the hands of our New Mexican neighbors and communities.

And we pushed back against the President’s often cruel measures:

We worked with New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez to push back against Trump’s illegal cuts in funding to Americorps and student mental health support.

And we fought against cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare, and public broadcasting.

We Will Keep Fighting For New Mexico

There is still so much to do.

Many of you are wondering how you will afford healthcare, utilities, or groceries in the new year. 2026 will be challenging, but we will meet it like we met 2025.

Because every day, my team is working for you: the hardworking people of our incredible New Mexico family.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

Sincerely,

MARTIN HEINRICH
United States Senator
