It’s not a voter ID bill – it's voter suppression.

President Trump and Congressional Republicans’ so-called ‘SAVE Act’ does not save anyone from anything. It does not protect our freedoms, our elections, or our country. Instead, it targets all three. It is one of the most extreme voter suppression bills in recent history and would deprive millions of Americans of their right to vote.

That’s why, yesterday, I went to the Senate floor to oppose the SAVE Act and fight for the most fundamental right in our democracy – the right to vote. Because when we, as Americans, exercise our right to vote, we hold in our hands the reins of this great democracy. And every American, regardless of their wealth, gender, or race, deserves the chance to guide our country’s future one election at a time.

I believe in having a way to verify citizenship – but a Jim Crow 2.0 is not it.
