Memorial Day

Dear Friend,

Memorial Day provides us with an opportunity to pause and reflect on the generations of Americans who selflessly gave their lives to protect our nation. These men and women paid the ultimate sacrifice so all of us can enjoy the freedoms that we cherish. Mere words will never measure up to their incredible contributions to our country.

I am especially proud of the numerous contributions made by New Mexico service members over the years. That includes the Navajo Code Talkers and Bataan Death March Survivors in World War II, the G.I.’s in the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and the service members who have deployed in recent decades in Iraq and Afghanistan and at military installations in New Mexico and all around the globe.

Through my new role as the chairman of the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, I am committed to fighting for all the resources and funding the VA needs to keep America's promise to our service members and their families when they return home.

My office has helped hundreds of veterans across New Mexico access their care and benefits. If you or a family member is having trouble filing a claim with the VA, receiving benefits, accessing health benefits or military records, replacing medals, or other veterans issues, you can contact my office by calling (505) 346-6601 or by visiting the Veterans Resources Center on my website.

On this Memorial Day, I join all New Mexicans, and all Americans, in remembering our fallen heroes, recognizing all the veterans who served our nation, and honoring those who continue to serve today at home and abroad.
