Heinrich Visits Troops In Afghanistan

On Wednesday, June 2, 2010, U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1) returned from a bipartisan congressional delegation (CODEL) trip to Afghanistan. The purpose of the trip was to observe and assess the progress being made in Afghanistan. Rep. Heinrich, who is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, met with military and diplomatic leaders in the region, U.S. troops and humanitarian workers from New Mexico, and conducted oversight of additional forces in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and International Security Assistance Forces. Rep. Heinrich was accompanied by five other congressmen: Representatives Larry Kissell (D-NC), Frank Kratovil (D-MD), John Kline (R-MN), Duncan Hunter (R-CA), and David Reichert (R-WA). The delegation spent most of its time in Kabul and Kandahar and was one of the first Congressional delegations in years to have visited Kandahar City.
