Santa Fe Indian School, July 1, 2015

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich visits the Santa Fe Indian School, a sovereign educational community, building upon its rich cultural legacy to be the leader in Native American education. Senator Heinrich was briefed on the Leadership Institute, which is based at the Santa Fe Indian School. The program was established in 1997 to create a space to discuss the policy issues that impact the Native tribes of New Mexico. Senator Heinrich also heard from the young leaders of the Institute's Brave Girls program, which aims to educate and empower girls, and the Summer Policy Academy, which convenes students each summer for intensive sessions that focus on current local, national, and international Indigenous issues.
