U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich joins U.S. Senator Tom Udall for a Senate Committee on Indian Affairs Field Hearing to hear from experts on what steps Congress and the Administration should take to prevent the sale of counterfeit items falsely claiming to be Native produced and ensure Native artists can thrive in an ethical marketplace. Witnesses included Chief Bill Woody from the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) law enforcement, Executive Director of the Indian Arts and Crafts Board Meredith Stanton, Acting United States Attorney James Tierney, Former United States Attorney for New Mexico Damon Martinez, Culture Director of the Living Traditions Education Center for the Museum of Indian Arts Joyce Begay-Foss, Chief Operating Officer of Southwest Alliance for Indian Arts Dallin Maybee, and Native American Artist Mr. Harvey Pratt.
