On Tuesday, May 31, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) toured the Whitfield Conservation Area to receive an update on damage sustained from the recent Big Hole Fire. Senator Heinrich met with members of the Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District and Friends of the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area (FWWCA). FWWCA is a nonprofit, volunteer organization dedicated to supporting the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area by promoting habitat restoration, education, and conservation. -

On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, the 150th anniversary of President Ulysses S. Grant signing the General Mining Act of 1872 into law, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) held a press conference outside the U.S. Capitol calling for the modernization of this antiquated mining law. Grijalva, Chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, and Heinrich, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, introduced their House and Senate mining reform bills, both titled the Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act. -

Ahead of Earth Day 2022, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich spoke on-air with Isabella O’Donnell Silfverberg of the TrueKids1 Democracy Project. The project is a student-run production that interviews elected officials on the issues that matter most to today’s youth, including the climate crisis. Isabella is a senior at Taos High School and is the Special Projects Coordinator at TrueKids1.
