      U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich visits the Farmington Quality Center for Business where he meets with small business entrepreneurs at the San Juan College Enterprise Center. The Enterprise Center is a business incubator that helps entrepreneurs in New Mexico build and expand their businesses. These entrepreneurs are doing great things to advance innovation and provide jobs for the community.

        U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich tours the San Juan College School of Energy construction site in Farmington. The new 50,000 square foot complex, which is scheduled for completion in 2015, will house all energy degree and certificate programs under one facility. Currently enrolled students take courses at one of SJC's satellite locations throughout San Juan County. Nearly 7,000 students attend classes annually at the School of Energy, which has developed a well-respected curriculum for the oil and gas industry providing critical education and training to New Mexicans in the area. The college awards approximately 250 Associate of Applied Science degrees each spring in energy-related fields, including natural gas compression, petroleum technology, and renewable energy.

The Senator's speech focused on high-quality education and job training opportunities being key components to building a more prosperous New Mexico and becoming a more competitive destination for new businesses.

            U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich tours the Santa Fe Brewing Company to discuss the microbrewery industry's impact on New Mexico's economy. The senator was joined by USDA Rural Development Director Terry Brunner during the tour. Senator Heinrich is a cosponsor of the Small Brewer Reinvestment and Expanding Workforce Act, a bill aimed at promoting small breweries through a series of tax incentives. The craft brewing industry is one of the fastest growing industries in New Mexico employing 3,600 people and generating $61 million in state and local taxes. The Santa Fe Brewing Company has been an innovator in New Mexico's brewing industry and recently utilized U.S. Department of Agriculture grants to install solar panels for energy efficiency, and jump-start a small hops farm in Riconada to use in its products.

Senator Heinrich -- who is the only engineer in the Senate -- is a strong proponent of technology-transfer and commercialization.
