Heinrich Honors Legacy of Civil Rights Leader César Chávez

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 28, 2019)– In recognition of César Chávez Day, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) cosponsored a resolution to honor the legacy and accomplishments of civil rights leader César E. Chávez.

“César Chávez was a visionary and fearless leader who fought tirelessly for better working conditions and fair wages for farmers and other underrepresented communities,” said Heinrich. “He inspired a generation of workers and community leaders across the country to stand up for equal justice, economic opportunity, and civil rights. Chávez's legacy and spirit live on through those who continue striving to lift up all families in their communities. Let us continue to meet each challenge the way César Chávez did: with hope, determination, and selfless service.”

Every year on March 31, more than 10 states, including New Mexico, honor the accomplishments and legacy of César Chávez. In New Mexico, César Chávez Day brings communities together to celebrate and contribute to service and learning projects across the state.
