Heinrich, Luján Welcome Over $3 Million For Emergency Housing Vouchers Created Through American Rescue Plan

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) are welcoming $3,309,936 from the American Rescue Plan’s Emergency Housing Vouchers (EHVs) program to create 288 housing vouchers for families experiencing homelessness and victims of domestic violence throughout New Mexico.

Through the EHV program, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is providing housing choice vouchers to local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) in order to assist individuals and families who are:

  • Homeless,
  • At risk of homelessness,
  • Fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or
  • Were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability.

“I’m proud to support this critical funding from the American Rescue Plan that empowers New Mexico Public Housing Authorities to help keep and put roofs over the heads of those that need it most,” said Heinrich. “I will continue fighting for resources that promote housing security and a broad economic recovery across New Mexico.”

“Individuals and families facing homelessness, especially those escaping domestic and sexual violence, need strong support from their communities. This emergency housing funding made available through the American Rescue Plan will empower local public housing authorities to shelter the most vulnerable New Mexicans,” said Luján. “I’ll continue fighting for the federal resources that New Mexico needs to recover and rebuild, support struggling families, and help people stay in their homes.”

New Mexico has received the following EHV awards:

  • $748,308 to support 62 EHVs through the Eastern Regional Housing Authority in Roswell
  • $434,280 to support 41 EHVs through the Northern Regional Housing Authority in Taos
  • $860,424 to support 72 EHVs through the Bernalillo County Housing Department in Albuquerque
