Heinrich Statement on Republican Abandonment of National Security Supplemental

Republicans Walk Away From Supporting America’s Democratic Allies, Border Security

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) released the following statement after Republicans blocked a procedural vote to begin debate on the National Security Supplemental:

"Today I voted in favor of a bipartisan proposal to help improve border security and make our communities safer, strengthen our national security through support for our democratic allies in Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific Region, and deliver critical aid to innocent civilians in Gaza.

“Meanwhile, Republicans put politics before people, blocking the bill and refusing to even allow debate.

“To put it bluntly: Republicans chose to help Vladimir Putin in Ukraine, destabilize the Middle East, and stoke chaos and dysfunction at our southern border. All to preserve their political talking point.

“Republicans spectacularly failed to protect the American people and made our world more dangerous. The stakes are too high to let this failure to deliver be the final word.”
