Heinrich To Host Ceremony Honoring Service Of Korean War Veteran

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – On Sunday, December 22, at 9 a.m. MT, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will host a medal ceremony for Korean War veteran, Alfred Austen, at the New Mexico Veterans’ Memorial in Albuquerque.

Senator Heinrich will honor the military service of U.S. Army Private First Class (PFC) Austen by presenting the Albuquerque resident with the Korean Service Medal and Triple Bronze Star Attachment, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.

Austen, age 89, was initially awarded the aforementioned medals and commendations after serving in three campaigns in Korea, but has yet to receive them. After contacting the Albuquerque office of Senator Heinrich, Austen will now finally receive recognition for service to his country, more than 65 years later.
