Heinrich To Visit New Mexico Tech Playas Training And Research Center, Promote STEM Education

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – On Monday, February 21 at 1 p.m. MT/ 3 p.m. ET, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will visit the New Mexico Tech Playas Research and Training Center to learn about how the facility is preparing New Mexico students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Projects at the Center cover an array of fields including virtual, solar, infrastructure resiliency, and defense technologies.

As one of the few people in Congress with a background in science and engineering, Senator Heinrich has long fought for federal investments in STEM education to put New Mexico students on the path to become the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs. Through his previous role on the Senate Armed Services Committee, and now the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Senator Heinrich is working to strengthen the STEM pipeline for careers in New Mexico to boost the state’s growing technology economy.
