Heinrich Urges Passage Of For The People Act, Slated To Deliver Speech On Senate Floor

WASHINGTON – Ahead of the vote tomorrow in the Senate on whether to start debate on S.1, the For the People Act, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) is calling for comprehensive reforms to defend our democracy, reduce the influence of dark money and powerful special interests, and stop the wave of Republican voter suppression happening in the states across the country.

“Every American deserves an equal voice in our democracy,” said Heinrich. “Passing the For the People Act is the most important way for Congress to uphold that principle. It will curb the corrupting influence of dark money that has poisoned our politics. And it will ensure that all Americans can access safe, secure, and fair elections. The Senate needs to pass the For the People Act to guarantee the voting rights of every single American.”

Senator Heinrich will deliver a speech on the Senate Floor in support of the For the People Act tomorrow, Tuesday, June 22, at approximately 8:30 a.m. MT/ 10:30 a.m. ET.

The speech will be livestreamed on Senator Heinrich’s Facebook page here, and an HD recording will be released following his remarks.
