Senator Heinrich is warning of the dangerous precedent this sets for U.S. relations in the region
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 5, 2019) – In a key Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) questioned Secretary of Defense for Policy John C. Rood on the Trump administration’s reckless decision to withdraw U.S. forces from northern Syria. The removal of U.S. forces from the region in early October extinguished trust and partnerships with Kurdish allies and expelled countless, innocent civilians from their homes.
In October, Senator Heinrich, who also serves on the Senate Intelligence Committee, condemned the Trump administration’s reckless, irresponsible decision.
