ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Today, in his Albuquerque Office, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) presented Orville E. Kirk the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Kirk, a longtime resident of New Mexico, is a WWII Army veteran who qualified for the WWII Victory Medal, but never received it after its creation in 1945. Senator Heinrich and his staff worked with the Department of Defense to ensure Mr. Kirk received the medal he had earned. Mr. Kirk is also the recipient of a Silver Star, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart.

“Orville Kirk heroically put his life on the line to defend our country. It is a humbling privilege to honor Orville Kirk for his courage, commitment, and sacrifice and present him with this long overdue WWII Victory Medal,” said Sen. Heinrich.

The WWII Victory Medal is awarded to any member of the United States military who served on active duty, or as a reservist, between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946.
