Heinrich To Deliver Keynote On Privacy, Present Medals To World War II Veteran In Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Today, October 9, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will address the Albuquerque Press Women and League of Women Voters and present medals to a World War II veteran in Albuquerque.

At the Albuquerque Press Women and League of Women Voters luncheon, Senator Heinrich, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and the Armed Services Committee, will discuss balancing civil liberties with national security in a digital age. Senator Heinrich is an original co-sponsor of the USA FREEDOM Act, a bill he cosponsored that was signed into law in June to end the National Security Agency's (NSA) bulk collection program that has allowed the government to collect billions of Americans' private records while suspecting them of no wrongdoing. He also strongly supported the release of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence's report on the CIA's detention and interrogation program and supports a series of reforms to prevent the future use of torture.

Later in the day, Senator Heinrich will present medals to a World War II Veteran. Senator Heinrich's office assisted this veteran with his case to obtain medals he earned for his service in World War II but never received. The event serves as tribute to the veteran's service and will include a Presentation of the Colors.
