Heinrich Secures Commitment From DOD Research and Engineering Nominee To Advance Directed Energy
U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) participates in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing to consider the nominations of Michael Griffin to be Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, Phyllis Bayer to be Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Installations, Energy, and the Environment, John Henderson to be Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment, and Energy, and William Roper Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition. During Senator Heinrich’s questioning, Dr. Michael Griffin committed to implement and advance the program established under the NDAA focused on getting directed energy weapons like high-energy- lasers and high-powered-microwaves out of the laboratories and into the hands of the warfighters.
