Heinrich Announces Rural Health Care Listening Tour

Sen. Heinrich will visit hospitals in Guadalupe, Union, Harding, and Colfax Counties to meet with medical professionals and tour local facilities. Tour to highlight challenges and solutions to improving the quality, availability, and accessibility of health care for rural New Mexicans.

U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) announced a multi-day rural health care listening tour to meet with medical professionals and discuss tele-health for veterans, recruiting and retaining staff, and other issues facing New Mexico's growing health care industry. Beginning Monday, November 7, he will tour the Guadalupe County Hospital, a new Veterans Tele-Health Clinic in Mosquero, the Union County Hospital, and the Miners’ Colfax Medical Center, and convene listening sessions to hear from providers, community leaders, clinic administrators, public health officials and other stakeholders.

In the afternoon on Monday, November 7, Senator Heinrich will visit the Guadalupe County Hospital in Santa Rosa. Senator Heinrich will tour the facility and host a roundtable discussion with hospital staff, board members, and public officials including Mayor Campos of Santa Rosa. The discussion will focus on how Guadalupe County Hospital is working to strengthen access and delivery of care, and the challenges of providing health care to rural communities in New Mexico.

On Wednesday, November 9, Senator Heinrich will attend the Ribbon Cutting of a new Veterans Tele-Health Clinic in Mosquero. Senator Heinrich will commemorate the launch of the Tele-Health Clinic that will serve veterans and was created through a partnership between the Veterans Administration and the Harding County Health Council. Senator Heinrich has been a strong supporter of increasing access to tele-health for New Mexico’s rural communities and veterans.

On Wednesday afternoon, Senator Heinrich will tour Union County Hospital, which is an acute care hospital in Clayton, and host a listening session with providers and hospital leaders to hear about the work they are doing to attract and retain medical professions.

On Thursday, November 10, Senator Heinrich will visit the Miners’ Colfax Medical Center (MCMC) in Raton, which is a Critical Access Facility and provides long term care. MCMC also facilities the Miners’ Outreach Program that provides service to all former miners as well as screenings for mining related illnesses and conditions through a medical mobile unit. Senator Heinrich will tour the facility, meet with staff, and host a listening session.
