WASHINGTON – Today, June 8, 2021, at 2:30 p.m. MT/ 4:30 p.m. ET, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), Vice Chair of the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee (JEC), will participate in the 2021 Aspen Forum on Children and Families: Our Moment is Now. Senator Heinrich is a featured speaker on a panel focused on how a two-generation approach that targets both parents and children can increase economic security, educational success, social capital, and the health and wellbeing of whole families.

LIVESTREAM: Heinrich To Discuss How 2GEN Approach Can Increase Opportunities For Families Living In Poverty

The panel, “2GEN: Rebuilding a New Structure for Families,” hosted by Ascend at the Aspen Institute, will also feature Javier Martínez, executive director, Partnership for Community Action; Marjorie Sims, managing director, Ascend at the Aspen Institute; and Anne Mosle, vice president, the Aspen Institute, executive director, Ascend at the Aspen Institute.

Senator Heinrich is the lead Senate Democrat on the bipartisan Two-Generation Economic Empowerment Act, legislation to increase opportunities for families living in poverty. A previous version of Senator Heinrich and U.S. Senator Susan Collins’ (R-Maine) legislation included two provisions that have since been signed into law. These provisions include a request for the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to issue a report exploring the potential for two-generation pilots, collaboration areas, and federal funding opportunities, and a new program administered by the U.S. Department of Treasury to implement Social Impact Partnerships to improve the effectiveness of social services.

Senator Heinrich has lauded President Biden’s American Families Plan for taking a two-generation approach to deliver economic security to families by providing much-needed support for child care, making health care more affordable, and establishing a comprehensive national paid leave policy.
