Heinrich Statement On Dog Head Fire

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, released the following statement on the Dog Head Fire in Bernalillo and Torrance Counties:

"The Dog Head Fire continues to burn, but with the humidity up, we are finally starting to see containment. I will do everything in my power to support families who have lost their homes and the entire community that has been impacted by this fire. And we all share a deep appreciation or our firefighters and other first responders who put their lives on the line to keep us safe.  Residents in the area should continue to follow announcements from officials about evacuations. I will continue to work to ensure the U.S. Forest Service and the State have the resources they need to protect our communities in New Mexico from wildfires and prevent further destruction of our forests and homes."

On Thursday, June 23, at approximately 10 a.m. ET/8 a.m. MT, Senator Heinrich will participate in an Energy and Natural Resources committee hearing where he will underscore the need for wildfire funding reform. The committee will receive testimony on a discussion draft entitled Wildfire Budgeting, Response and Forest Management Act of 2016. The hearing will stream live
