Heinrich To Attend White House Tribal Nations Conference, Builds Support For Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will attend the 2016 White House Tribal Nations Conference in Washington, DC.

Senator Heinrich will meet with tribal leaders and government officials to discuss issues of critical importance to Indian Country, including the Safeguard Tribal Objects of Patrimony (STOP) Act, a bill he introduced to prohibit the exporting of sacred Native American items and increase penalties for stealing and illegally trafficking tribal cultural patrimony.

This will be the eighth Tribal Nations Conference hosted by President Obama to provide tribal leaders from the 567 federally recognized tribes with the opportunity to interact directly with high-level federal government officials and members of the White House Council on Native American Affairs.
