Heinrich To Tour Santa Fe Indian School, Highlight Critical Tribal Education Programs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will travel to Santa Fe on Wednesday, July 1, to discuss tribal education and tour the Santa Fe Indian School.

The school is a sovereign educational community, building upon its rich cultural legacy to be the leader in Native American education.  Senator Heinrich will be briefed on the Leadership Institute, which is based at the Santa Fe Indian School.  The program was established in 1997 to create a space to discuss the policy issues that impact the Native tribes of New Mexico.

Senator Heinrich will also be briefed on the Leadership Institute's Brave Girls program, which aims to educate and empower female youth, and the Summer Policy Academy, which convenes students each summer for intensive sessions that focus on current local, national, and international Indigenous issues.

Members of the press are invited to join Senator Heinrich, representatives of the Leadership Institute, and Summer Policy Academy students for a media availability and campus tour.

The information below is for planning purposes only. Media must RSVP to press@heinrich.senate.gov to attend.
