Udall and Heinrich to Speak at Veterans Day Groundbreaking for Fort Stanton State Veterans' Cemetery

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 11, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich will travel to Fort Stanton to deliver remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fort Stanton State Veterans' Cemetery.

Udall, a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, and Heinrich are working to support the construction of new veterans' cemeteries in New Mexico. Currently, the state has only two veterans' cemeteries -- located in Santa Fe and at Fort Bayard -- and many veterans and their families have to travel a great distance to honor loved ones. In October, the senators announced that they secured $5,741,388 to construct the Fort Stanton Veterans' Cemetery, which will serve more than 7,500 veterans and their families. Construction on the first phase is expected to begin shortly after Wednesday's ceremony.
