      U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) meets with seniors and volunteers with AARP Foundation's Tax-Aide program at Santa Fe Community College. The program is the nation's largest, free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service. It is available to low- and moderate-income taxpayers with special attention to those aged 60 and older. In 2014, more than 35,000 AARP Foundation trained and IRS certified volunteers helped over 2.6 million people file their taxes. In Santa Fe, AARP Tax-Aide operates two sites where nearly 70 tax preparers and 30 other volunteers assist with tasks such as Spanish translation. The primary site is at the Santa Fe Community College and an additional site is located this year at the Santa Fe Boys & Girls Club. Since opening on February 1, the two sites have filed over 4,200 returns and have netted over $7.35 million in tax-return dollars back into the community.

        U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich tours Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU) campus with President Steven Gamble and meets with administrators, researchers, instructors, and students to learn more about the programs the university offers. Senator Heinrich also hosted a roundtable discussion with student leaders to discuss college affordability, reducing student loan debt, and building strong communities. Senator Heinrich finished his visit to ENMU by doing interviews in the studios of KENW Public Radio and Television on campus. ENMU is New Mexico's largest regional comprehensive university. The ENMU system includes a four-year campus in Portales and two-year campuses in Roswell and Ruidoso.

          U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich visits the Hampton Farms Peanut Company facility in Portales. He met with the family-owned company's staff, toured the facility, and discussed ways to expand businesses in eastern New Mexico with local officials to help grow the economy and create jobs. The facility in Portales employs 125 fulltime and seasonal workers throughout the year and allows Hampton Farms to serve the Western United States.

            U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich tours the Clovis Community College campus with President Dr. Becky Rowley. Senator Heinrich met with administrators and faculty members, and hosted a student roundtable to discuss the importance of higher education and the need to ensure that college is affordable and within reach for all New Mexicans. Senator Heinrich also was briefed on the college's work to provide job-training opportunities for students and visit the school's health care, nursing, and occupational technology departments.

              U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, announced a $10 million investment in directed energy development in New Mexico. A $4.8 million award from the U.S Air Force will go to Raytheon Ktech in Albuquerque to continue the Counter-Electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile, also known as CHAMP, for use aboard the Conventional Air-Launched Cruise Missile (CALCM). Senator Heinrich made the announcement at the Raytheon Ktech facility in Albuquerque. The company employs 170 people in New Mexico.
