    U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe announced that the Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge will receive $1 million in additional annual funding to engage urban communities and youth in conservation and outdoor recreation. The Refuge, located in Albuquerque's South Valley, is only five miles from downtown and has been working extensively with partners and community members to create a shared vision for opportunities to connect the Refuge with families and youth through conservation, culture, and community.

          U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich hosts a roundtable discussion to hear from students at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, N.M., about college affordability and discuss the importance of ensuring a college education is within reach for all New Mexicans. Senator Heinrich also met with school administrators and instructors and toured the campus’s vocational departments and preschool center. Senator Heinrich is an original cosponsor of America's College Promise Act, which would make two years of community college free and provide an affordable pathway to a four-year college degree for low-income students. He also introduced S. 1998, the Middle Class Creating Higher Education Affordability Necessary to Compete Economically (CHANCE) Act, a bill to increase access to affordable post-secondary education for low- to moderate-income students.

            U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich hosted a small business information meeting at the Albuquerque Convention Center between New Mexico small business owners and the Department of Energy’s Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC) to expand economic opportunity across the state. Senator Heinrich was joined by National Nuclear Security Administrator Lt. Gen. Frank Klotz USAF (Ret.) and SCMC Director Scott Bissen. The information meeting featured small group workshop sessions and discussions with representatives from Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant, and the Small Business Administration.

              U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich, a member of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus, joined the local community and representatives of hunting, fishing, wildlife, and conservation organizations in Las Vegas, N.M. to discuss improving access to public lands, fully funding the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), and growing New Mexico's outdoor recreation economy. Senator Heinrich has championed legislation, the HUNT Act, to help identify areas like the Sabinoso Wilderness Area east of Las Vegas that are priorities for sportsmen and other recreational users and find solutions to help open these special outdoor places to the public.
