Heinrich Statement On White House Interference In Investigation Of Trump's Russia Ties

Calls for Subpoena Of President Trump's Taxes

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement in response to press reports suggesting that the White House enlisted intelligence officials and key lawmakers to counter stories about President Trump's ties to Russia:

"I'm deeply disturbed to learn that the White House has been pressuring senior intelligence leaders and the Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman in charge of investigating President Trump's Russia ties to tell reporters to look the other way. That is the very definition of a conflict of interest.

“With the lengths that this White House is willing to go to hide and blur President Trump's Russia connections, it's clear that we need to go even further with an investigation. That starts with a subpoena for the President's taxes so that we can follow the money and find real answers to what they are hiding.

"It is more important than ever for Senate leadership to show that they are willing to resist the political pressure from the White House to bury President Trump's Russia ties."
