ROSWELL, N.M. - U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will be in Carlsbad tomorrow, Wednesday, October 19, to host a small business workshop to provide information about supply subcontracting with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and to meet with local veterans for a roundtable discussion.
In the morning, Senator Heinrich will host a small business information meeting at the Pecos River Village Conference Center in Carlsbad with Scott Bissen, Director of DOE Supply Chain Management Center (SCMC). The meeting will bring together small business owners and the SCMC to discuss subcontracting opportunities with WIPP and DOE laboratories. Small business owners will meet with SCMC and Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) commodity managers and learn how the procurement process works. Senator Heinrich has been a leading proponent of increasing New Mexico small business contracts with Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and WIPP. In February, Senator Heinrich welcomed General Frank Klotz and Scott Bissen to Albuquerque for the first small business information meeting of its kind hosted by SCMC.
In the afternoon, Senator Heinrich will host a veterans roundtable in Carlsbad. The event will bring veterans together to discuss the issues facing the local community. Senator Heinrich voted to create the Veterans Choice Program to ensure all veterans, especially those in rural Western states, have access to care. The program allows veterans to utilize other medical facilities if timely VA care isn’t available. Senator Heinrich is also a cosponsor of the Veterans First Act to significantly improve accountability at the VA and make sweeping enhancements to veterans’ benefits and services.
