On The Steps Of The U.S. Capitol, Udall & Heinrich To Highlight New Mexicans Impacted By Trump Shutdown And Call On President Trump To Reopen Government Immediately

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Wednesday, January 16 at 10 a.m. MT/12 p.m. ET on the Senate steps of the U.S. Capitol Building, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich will join members of the Senate Democratic Caucus to highlight the devastating effects the Trump Shutdown is having on American workers and families and call on President Trump to reopen the government immediately. The Senators will show the faces of New Mexicans hurt by the shutdown, which is now the longest in American history.

This past Friday, an estimated 800,000 federal workers did not receive their paycheck, pushing many families into dire financial straits – leaving them unable to pay their rent or mortgages, some struggling to choose between buying food, paying heating bills, or purchasing essential medications. If the shutdown continues, more Americans will suffer as millions could lose access to essential benefits and programs such as food stamps, housing assistance, and more. Senate Democrats will urge President Trump to put an end to the shutdown he was “proud” to start and reopen the government.

The press conference will be streamed live on Senator Heinrich's Facebook page
